Berlin Requiem

Hélder Diniz

Sensing the engines roar and the aircraft take off, Kai Mikael looked down at Tegel Airport disappearing under his feet, at the wide, blue lake shining nearby, and at the dark forests of Spandau where he had so often walked in the past. Much to his embarrassment, tears came to his eyes, hard as he tried to hide them from the passenger sitting next to him.(...)

Goodbye Berlin, he thought, snuffling loudly and wiping his cheeks. Thank you for the friends you gave me when I arrived on my own. Maybe one day I will come back to see you again.

Maybe.

One never knows.
